For the past 30+ years, the Ecuadent Foundation has taken surgeons, dentists, and medical professionals to the country of Ecuador to provide high-quality, free medical and dental care to impoverished children.
However, in these unprecedented times our mission has shifted to focus on the Covid-19 crisis.
We are partnering with the Ecuadorian Consulate in Washington, D.C., the Ecuadorian Armed Forces, the Maryland Office of the Secretary of State, Maryland’s Sister State Program, businesses, and community leaders to assist our neighbor in their time of crisis.
Today, our Latin American ally is an epicenter
of Covid-19 in the region. To date, nearly 3,000 people have died, many of whom were unable
to access the nation’s overwhelmed, hospitals
and health clinics.
More than a month after Ecuador’s largest city, Guayaquil, was overwhelmed by the
pandemic, the virus continues to spread,
and the fatality rate is increasing. Compounding the crisis, Ecuador’s dollar-based economy
is heavily dependent on petroleum exports and the crash in global oil prices has dealt a catastrophic blow to the nation’s finances.
Our goal is to send 20 tons of medical supplies, PPE, food, and cleaning supplies to help
relieve the suffering in Ecuador. We need your help to accomplish this goal.
The list of desperately needed supplies includes PPE (N95 and KN95 respirators, Level 3, Level 2, and Level 1 surgical masks, exam and surgical gloves, dishwashing gloves, disposable and reusable surgical gowns, face shields),
disinfectants (Clorox wipes, PDCare, liquid bleach), non-perishable food, and cleaning supplies.

Helping Those Most in Need!
Our previous mission: Dental Mission to Salinas, Educador
The dental team returned to Salinas, on the southern half of the coast, where we have run our dental clinic over the past few missions. We were fortunate to treat new communities from the surrounding provinces. There were two touching highlights from the dental week. The first was a mother with two very young children that took an over 18 hour public bus ride from her home bordering the Amazon Rain Forest to the western-most point of the country to be treated by our loving team. She and her children were so grateful and her love and devotion to them brought tears to our eyes. The second highlight was on the first treatment day when we treated 74 special needs children that were in need of urgent care. They were among our most cooperative and grateful patients after they got out of the chairs.
